Acupuncture – Gentle Support for Chronic and Acute Conditions

What is Animal Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapeutic method that has been used for thousands of years. Originally developed in East Asia, it is now practiced worldwide in both human and veterinary medicine. Its goal is to restore the body’s natural balance and activate self-healing mechanisms – without medication.

According to traditional Eastern medicine, life energy – known as Qi – flows along defined pathways in the body called meridians. Disruptions in this flow can lead to pain or illness over time.

By placing very fine, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points, this energy flow can be regulated, the nervous system influenced, and the body’s natural regulation stimulated. Many animals visibly relax during treatment.

Indications

Acupuncture is suitable for horses, dogs, cats, and other animals. It has been particularly helpful for:

  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Musculoskeletal disorders (e.g. osteoarthritis, lameness)
  • Respiratory issues (e.g. chronic bronchitis, equine asthma)
  • Digestive problems (e.g. diarrhea, loose stools, gastric ulcers)
  • Skin conditions (e.g. itching, allergic reactions, eczema)
  • Behavioral issues and signs of stress
  • Fatigue or decreased performance
  • Headshaking and rideability problems in horses

Treatment Process

Each treatment begins with a detailed case history. This is followed by a careful examination in which assess pain points, skin sensitivities and muscle tension is assessed. Based on the history and these findings, specific acupuncture points will be selected tailored to your animal. The treatment is carried out using very fine, sterile single-use needles, which are usually well tolerated.

Depending on the condition, each session lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. For acute problems, just a few sessions may be enough; for chronic conditions, repeated treatment is often beneficial.

I’m happy to advise you personally on whether acupuncture is suitable for your animal.
